Overview of BYU Surplus
Equipment and Vehicles for Sale: Vehicles and major items (except furnishings and office computers) declared surplus by their departments may be listed on this Web page for sale or our ongoing Internal Auction, or may be listed on publicsurplus.com. Look for all items currently available for sale in each of those Web pages.
Buying Vehicles
Cars, trucks, passenger vans and SUV’s (except commercial-type vehicles including cargo trucks and dump trucks) are available for auction to BYU employees/retirees only, during the first week they are shown on this page. Vehicles not sold on the one-week auction will be available for sale to the public on the dates shown, at the price listed. (If there is more than one buyer for the same vehicle when the public sale opens, the Service Station Manager may ask each buyer for a bid (above the listed price) to determine which buyer to award the sale to at the highest price offered.)
Commercial-type vehicles may appear on a public auction on this page (without restricting bidding to BYU employees/retirees) or they may be sold on an on-line auction hosted by Public Surplus, LLC at www.publicsurplus.com.
New listings are generally posted weekly on Fridays, and will become available for sale to BYU employees/retirees*[see restriction noted below] on the current auction, closing at the end of the business day each Thursday.
* BYU Employees may purchase up to two vehicles per calendar year, using the one-week advantage given them. If a BYU Employee/retiree wishes to purchase more than two vehicles in a year he or she will need to wait until they are open to public sale.
No representation is made that the condition of vehicles is adequately disclosed on this Web site. The buyer is responsible to inspect and determine the condition and suitability of any vehicle, and verify that the description herein is correct, before bidding or making an offer to purchase. Vehicles may be inspected at the BYU Service Station at 840 East 900 North, Provo, UT 84602. You may direct any questions to Scott Sherwood, BYU Transportation Services at (801) 422-5412. All items and vehicles listed for sale are "As Is" and as such, have no express or implied warranties. Unless noted, on-road vehicles will be sold with current Emissions and Safety Inspection Certificates, and will have a clear Title.
NOTICE TO ALL INTERESTED BIDDERS/PROSPECTIVE BUYERS OF BYU SURPLUS PROPERTY
In the event that you are contacted by BYU Purchasing, informing you that you have been awarded the bid, you will have until the following Wednesday to produce payment in full to BYU, and to initiate a transfer of title. If you do not make timely payment, BYU may make the item(s) available to the next highest bidder and will sell or re-list the item at the sole discretion of BYU.
BYU allows prospective bidders to test drive most vehicles, subject to the following restrictions:
· - Your time is limited to 30 minutes or less
· - You may not drive outside of Utah County
· - You must return the vehicle to the service station by 4:00 PM
· - You accept responsibility for any damage to the vehicle while in your possession
Internal Auction: Includes pianos and other equipment for sale depending on availability. All items have a minimum bid, and are open for bid Fridays through Thursdays. Each listing will indicate whether an item is for bid or for sale. Sealed bids may be submitted to the Purchasing Department, C-40 ASB, in person or by facsimile (fax) on a Standard Bid Form. Click here to download the Standard Bid Form in Adobe Acrobat format, or you may call Purchasing at (801) 422-3471 to have a form faxed to you.
Sealed bids are accepted in person to the Purchasing Office, C-40 ASB by closing at 5:00 p.m. each Thursday afternoon. Bids faxed to (801) 422-0608 will be accepted if received before midnight Thursday night. All sealed bids are opened each Friday morning, and the successful bidder is notified.
